Y9 Homework 2020-21

Task 2 - summer holiday work; On page 2 of your sketchbook (or a sheet of A4 paper) you should do these two pieces of work; 1)Copy a painting by Tam Joseph from here;                            Write some information about Tam Joseph                       2) Copy a painting by Paul Nash from here                                Write some information about Paul Nash from here:

Task 1 - Complete a Title Page for the start of a Year 9 Project entitled "War and Conflict" You must use one whole page of A4 paper. You must use the words War and Conflict. You must include images of the bull and the horse from Picasso's painting, "Guernica" See "Guernica" here:

Week 2. Study the pictures by Kathe Kollwitz in the link;

Choose one & make a copy of it on half PAGE 3 of your sketchbook. By the side of the image, add Kollwitz's name,  the title of the picture & write 3 comments about it

Wk 7 - On half of page 10 of your sketchbook choose a design by the fashion designer Grace Wales Bonner and make a copy of it. Write 3 pieces of information about her. Add the title "Grace Wales Bonner" at the top.

Wk 8 - On half of page 11 of your sketchbook copy a fabric swatch as shown in the lesson. Use colour.

Wk 9 Write an evaluation of your War  Conflict Project. Put the title "War and Conflict" at the top of p11 in your sketchbook. Shade the page a light colour by blending two different coloured pencils. Following the information on the sheet, write 5 paragraphs about the project, each one describing a different aspect of the work. Decorate your Evaluation. The evaluation sheet is here:

Week 14 - 9A complete this homework.Look at the image "Hope" by Shepard Fairey in the link below   Make an accurate copy of it on one page of your sketchbook. Add the artist's name at the top. Underneath write the title of the picture & the date it was made. Then write a short description of the picture. See more pictures by Fairey here;

Week 15 - Look at the images of faces by Andy Warhol in the link below   Make an accurate copy of one on half a page of your sketchbook. Add the artist's name at the top. Underneath write the title of the picture & the date it was made. Then write a short description of the picture.

Wk19-  Look at the images by Jon Burgerman in this link                                               Choose one and make an accurate copy of it on half of a page of your sketchbook. Add the artist's name at the top. Add a sign  or placard that protests against an issue you are concerned about. eg, Global warming, Race relations, Gender equality, Protect wildlife.

WK 22  - Find an image by the Artist, April Bey on the following Board April Bey Make a copy of it on half a page of your sketchbook.

Task 2; find a picture of a celebrity - bring it to class next week

Week 23 Homework Watch this video on Pop Art. Subsequently, on page 16 of your sketchbook write the phrase "Pop Art" in a bold, bright, eye-catching lettering style. Around it add the names of Pop Artists mentioned in the video.

Extension : add the names of other Pop Artists you find from your own research online or in books.

Study the work of Rachel Whiteread in the links below. Choose one and on half of one page of your sketchbook make a detailed copy of it. Use a full range of shading to produce a sense of form and solidity. Write the artist's name, the title of the piece, the materials used and the date the work was made. The first sculpture is called House. It was made of concrete in 1993                                The second is called "Holocaust Memorial". It was made of concrete in 2000

Write an evaluation of your Pop Art project. Put the title "Pop Art" at the top of a page in your sketchbook. Shade the page a light colour using a blend of two different coloured-pencils. Following the information on the sheet, write 5 paragraphs about the project, each one describing a different aspect of the work. Decorate your Evaluation appropriate imagery

Make an observational pencil drawing of a hand. You should look for the correct proportions. You must use a variety of shading techniques to create the tone. Ensure you include details such as nails, knuckles and creases in the skin.

Wk27. On one page of your sketchbook, draw three ideas for the "Massive" sculptural project. You can use wire, card, cardboard, art straws and other materials for the main piece. You can paint or draw on your model. Maquettes will be based on the image of a hand. Add notes. Remember, the themes are; Education, Spirituality, Community.

This is a CATCH UP week. Take this opportunity to complete or improve any homework you have done so far. Make sure you add titles of pictures and names of artists to your work and write any descriptions you were required to. You can see all the Y9 homework by clicking this link.

Draw a bunch of keys. Choose some with a interesting key fob. Lay them on the table in front of you. Using a 2B pencil, draw the basic shape of the keys as shown in class. When you are happy you have all the shapes & outlines add shading. Use a full range of shading techniques such as hatching, cross hatching, block, and stipple.  Watch this video for further advice and then use the techniques in your drawing.

Week 3. Study the pictures by Faith Ringgold in this link

Choose one & make a copy of it on half PAGE 3 of your sketchbook. By the side of the image, add Ringgold's name, the title of the picture & write 3 comments about it

Week 4 On page 5 of your sketchbook generate three ideas for a Main Piece in the War and Conflict project. Each idea should be different and should explore the imagery and materials we have studied so far. Ideas should be annotated

Wk 6 - On page 10 of your sketchbook choose a design by the fashion designer Issey Miyake and make a copy of it. Write 3 pieces of information about him. Add the title "Issey Miyake" at the top.
