Year 8 Homework 2022/23

Wk 33 - Summer Challenge.
Make an animation. Draw by hand, use claymation, use stop motion or any digital app you know. Bring it into class in September

Wk2 - Click the link below to find an image by the artist Nathan Bowen. Choose one and make a copy on half of page 4 of your sketchbook. Add the artist's name and the title of the painting and then write two sentences about the painting using your Art Vocabulary sheet.

Wk 3 No homework 

Wk4 - Click the link below to find an image by the artist Steven Wiltshire. Choose one and copy part of it on half of page 4 of your sketchbook. Add the artist's name and the title of the painting and then write two sentences about the painting using your Art Vocabulary sheet.

Wk 5  - Working from your studies in class, design a final idea for your Main Piece in the URBAN ENVIRONMENT project. This must include at least two of the techniques you have used in the prep work. You must sketch the composition, use colour and add notes explaining the materials you will use. Do this on Page 6 of your sketchbook.

Wk 6 - Have a look at the painting "Radiator Building - Night, New York". Make a copy of it.

Week 24: On the lower part of page 19 of your sketchbook design your own lettering style. Write the name of the style in the style. If you name your style "Elegance" write that word in the style. Look here for some examples of lettering styles:

Week 23 -  Catch up week. Ensure you have completed all your homework tasks. Improve or refine previous work and respond to marking. All homework tasks are listed below
Week 25 and 26: On the the whole of  page 22 of your sketchbook design your final poster.  You need to focus on one Social Issue.
The Poster must have 1. Simple imagery 2. Block Lettering 3. Short slogan 4. Limited colour scheme: (Max 5 colours) 5 Areas of flat colour with no modulation of gradation.

Wk 7 - Click the link below to find an urban image by the artist Romare Bearden. Choose one and make a copy on HALF OF P6 of your sketchbook. Add the artist's name and the title of the painting and then write two sentences about the painting using your Art Vocabulary sheet.

Wk 9 - On p11 of your sketchbook, write an evaluation of your Urban project. 1.Write about the artists you looked at. 2. Write about the Preparation and Development of your project. 3.Write about making your Main Piece 4. Write a self-assessment. See the outline given in class

Wk 10 - On p12 of your sketchbook, draw a musical instrument.

Wk 11  - Click the link below to find an image by the artist Faith Ringgold. Choose one and make a copy on HALF OF PAGE 12 of your sketchbook. Wk 13  - Working from your studies in class, design a final idea for your Main Piece in the Music project. This must include at least two of the techniques you have used in the prep work and you must include the image of at least one instrument. You must sketch the composition, use colour and add notes explaining the materials you will use. You may have started this in class. Due in your next art lesson.

Wk 14  - Draw a mug or teacup or teapot. The object should have a design on it. Have a look at these drawings by Emma Dibben for some tips on how to draw detail and achieve a sense of 3 dimensions.

Wk 17- There is no Homework this week

Wk 18- On half of Page 18 of your sketchbook, draw the profile view of a shoe in full shading. Place a shoe in front of you  and make an observational drawing of it. Use block shading, hatching and cross hatching. Include all the details you see.

Wk 20  - Prepare your sketchbook for our trip on Friday, as shown to you in class. Check the National Gallery by having a virtual tour here: National Gallery Virtual Tour,

Wk 21  - On half of page 18, copy this picture by David Hockney.
It is called a Joiner. In your drawing, show that it is made of various photographs joined together
Extension: take your own "Joiner" photograph of a chair.

Wk 22 - No Homework this week

Wk 23  - On half of page 18, make a Cubist influenced collage. Use the image "Still Life with Chair Caning" by Pablo Picasso as your inspiration. Use drawing and the collage materials supplied in class.

Wk 24  -  take your own "Joiner" photograph of a chair or other object

Wk 25- On p19 of your sketchbook, write an evaluation of your Fragmentation project. 1.Write about the artists you studied. 2. Write about the Preparation and Development of your project. 3.Write about making your Main Piece 4. Write a self-assessment. See the outline given in class

Wk 26- Catch - up week. Complete any unfinished homework. Refine work that needs improving. If you missed a homework task, catch up with it this week.

Wk 27- Have a look here at the work of the animator Aaron McGruder; Choose and image to copy and made a drawing of it on half of one page of your sketchbook. Focus on line, shape and colour

Wk 28- Have a look here at the revision for your test.

Wk 29- Plan your animation in 6 frames. Use close ups, long shots and speech bubbles. Story should have beginning, middle and end.

Wk 30- Find an example of a published cartoon strip eg "Peanuts" "Calvin and Hobbes" - draw some sketches and studies from your example. Name the strip and the animator - this homework is optional.

Wk22 -  Select one poster and make a small copy of it on the whole of  page 18 of your sketchbook. List the 5 main features of good poster design and identify where your chosen poster uses each feature by using arrows.

Year 8 Art Independent Research Project.
Find an example of an artist who is well known for making self portraits. Conduct research into that artist and produce a study with information, notes and images. Worked will be judged as Distinction, Merit, Pass or Fail.
Deadline in Friday 30th June to be handed in in the art room during your lesson
