Year 9 Art Independent Research Project.

Deadline in Friday 30th June to be handed in in the art room during your lesson

Wk 30
Year 9 Art Independent Research Project.
Design a maquette for a public sculpture to be sited in the school. The sculpture must be on the theme of Education and/or Community. You should research into appropriate sculptures and sculptors. You should design your sculpture in your sketchbook and make the macquette from cardboard and wire.
Assessment: Distinction, Merit, Pass or Fail.

Wk 3O Do some research into cardboard and wire building techniques. Find out how to curve cardboard, how to join it, fold it and make it into a 3D form. Look at the link for examples. There needs to be no evidence of this work, but bring your learning to your next lesson

Wk 27 Do some research into Public Sculptures that include the image of hands. Choose one and on half of one page of your sketchbook make a detailed copy of it. Use a full range of shading to produce a sense of form & solidity. Write the artist's name, the title of the piece, the materials used & the date of the work. Wk 26 Study the work of Rick Kirby in the links. Choose one and on half of one page of your sketchbook make a detailed copy of it. Use a full range of shading to produce a sense of form & solidity. Write the artist's name, the title of the piece, the materials used & the date of the work. 

Wk 25 Study the work of Rachel Whiteread in the links. Choose one and on half of one page of your sketchbook make a detailed copy of it. Use a full range of shading to produce a sense of form & solidity. Write the artist's name, the title of the piece, the materials used & the date of the work. The first sculpture is called House. It was made of concrete in 1993                       The second is called "Holocaust Memorial". It was made of concrete in 2000

Wk24-  Draw a hand on  of p22 of your sketchbook. Use pencil. Look here for examples: 

Wk23-  Look at the image of an eye in the link. Use it to make your own picture of an eye on a decorated coloured background on half of p20 of your sketchbook. Add a word or phrase. 

Wk22-  Look at the images by Andy Warhol in the link below. Choose one and make an accurate copy of it on half of p20 of your sketchbook. Add the artist's name at the top. Underneath write the title of the picture & the date it was made. Then write a short description of the picture. 

Wk21 -  Find a photograph of a celebrity or take a self portrait photograph. It must be Black and White Find one with plenty of shadow and high contrast. You must have it printed on A4 size, ready for the next lesson.

Wk20-  On Page 19 of your book, draw 3 phrases, using attractive, eye-catching lettering styles. The phrases should be critical of rather than celebratory of modern life.

Wk19-  Look at the images by April Bey in the link below. Choose one and make an accurate copy of it on half of p18 of your sketchbook. Add the artist's name at the top. Underneath write the title of the picture & the date it was made. Then write a short description of the picture.

Wk 15- On page 14 of your sketchbook copy a painting by Barcley L Hendricks. Concentrate on the proportions of the figure and on the folds, curves and patterns on the clothing. Use colour. Write some information about Hendricks

Wk 16- On page 15 of your sketchbook sketch some designs for your final piece. Concentrate on the folds, curves and patterns on the clothing. Use colour. 

Wk 17- This is catch-up week: please complete any homework tasks you missed. Refine, improve or complete and other pieces. Hand in your  book next Thursday.

Wk 14- On page 13 of your sketchbook sketch some of the designs from figures from this Pinterest board. Concentrate on the proportions of the figure and on the folds, curves and patterns on the clothing. Use colour.

Wk 12- On page 11 of your sketchbook sketch 4 of the figures from this board. Concentrate on the proportions of the figure and on the folds, curves and patterns on the clothing. 

Wk 11 - On page 10 of your sketchbook draw a piece of cloth. Use something like a tea-towel, Handkerchief, Scarf, or something else small, with a pattern on it. Lay it loosely on a table and draw it with its folds and curves: Use pencil only

Wk 10 - On half of page 9 of your sketchbook choose a design by the fashion designer Grace Wales Bonner and make a copy of it. Write 3 pieces of information about her. Add the title "Grace Wales Bonner" at the top.

Wk 9 - On half of page 8 of your sketchbook choose a design by the fashion designer Issey Miyake and make a copy of it. Write 3 pieces of information about him. Add the title "Issey Miyake" at the top.

Week 8 -  Catch up week. Ensure you have completed all your homework tasks. Improve or refine previous work and respond to marking. All homework tasks are listed below

Week 7,   Draw a metallic kitchen utensil. Use full range of shading

Week 6,   Complete your Guernica copy in your sketchbook. Choose a colour to shade it in monochrome. ie if you select blue, use all the tones from  Navy blue to light blue.
Extension: Complete your page 1 design.

Week 5,   Working from all the images you have made in this project, come up with 3 ideas for a Main Piece. Your sketches must show the composition you plan to use and you should add notes about the materials you hope to utilise. Do this on page 4. 

Week 4,  
 Study the work of Ken Curry on the link below. Draw one of them on half of Page 3 of your sketchbook. Write some information about how Curry gets across the idea of emotion in his work.
